Worms: Open Warfare 2 is the 2007 handheld Worms from Team17, published by THQ for the PSP and Nintendo DS. Like every Worms game, two or more teams of worms take turns on a destructible 2D island, lining up bazooka shots against the wind, lobbing grenades, dropping banana bombs and sending out exploding sheep until only one team is left.

This sequel added a lot to the first Open Warfare: a campaign, puzzle challenges, a Fort mode where each side builds a stronghold, Rope Race courses that test the ninja rope, a larger arsenal, and multiplayer for friends taking turns on one device.

The browser version is a fan web port of the PSP release by dezm0n, hosted on dezm0n's itch.io page. You start it with the Run game button there; it opens in a new tab. It plays on your own or with a friend sharing the same computer. It is a fan project, not affiliated with Team17 or THQ, and the itch.io page sometimes shows a browser check before it loads.

How to play Worms: Open Warfare 2

  1. Press Play. dezm0n's itch.io page opens in a new tab.
  2. Press Run game on that page and wait for the game to load.
  3. Pick a mode from the game's menu: a quick match, the campaign, or a multiplayer game for two people on one computer.
  4. On your worm's turn, choose a weapon, set the angle and power, and fire before the turn timer runs out.
  5. Use the fullscreen button under the game on itch.io for a bigger view.

Tips

  • Check the wind indicator before every bazooka or grenade shot; it bends the arc a lot.
  • Use Chrome or Edge on a computer. The port is not built for phones.
  • In two-player games, hand the keyboard over each turn; both players share the same keys.
  • If itch.io shows a browser check, let it finish, then press Run game again.
