About Burnout 3: Takedown

Play Burnout 3: Takedown free in your browser. No download, no install: it opens on burnout3.online in a new tab.

Burnout 3: Takedown is the 2004 arcade racer that made crashing other cars the goal. Criterion Games built it in Guildford, England, and Electronic Arts released it on PlayStation 2 and Xbox in September 2004. Ramming a rival into a wall is a Takedown, and each one refills your boost. World Tour spreads 173 events over courses in the US, Europe and Asia, Road Rage asks for a set number of takedowns before time runs out, and Crash mode turns busy junctions into pileup puzzles. Critics scored it in the 90s on Metacritic, and it still shows up on lists of the best racing games.

The browser version is by Slayoner. It runs the PS2 release on your own computer through PS2 Web Recomp, snuri00's engine that recompiles PS2 code to WebAssembly and draws with WebGPU. The site is in Spanish by default, with English in its language menu.

Slayoner calls this a preview build and is open about its limits. Saving your profile still fails with a damaged data warning, so the clean way to play is to answer No when the game asks to save. The first race includes a training section of about three minutes that cannot be skipped yet. Online private rooms and matchmaking are switched on as an experimental feature. Keyboard keys can be remapped, controllers work, and phones get touch controls when their browser supports WebGPU.

How to play Burnout 3: Takedown

  1. Press Play. The site opens in a new tab. Set the language menu to English if you want, and use a current Chrome or Edge on a computer.
  2. Click Jugar (Play). The game loads automatically with nothing to install.
  3. Click inside the game image so it takes your keys. To use a controller, press any button on it after that click.
  4. Create a profile and answer No when asked to save, since profile saves fail in this preview build.
  5. Drive through the short training in the first race, then pick your events. For online, open the Online tab, create a private room and share the code; the room creator picks the multiplayer mode.

Tips

  • Boost is the core of the game: drive close to traffic and grab takedowns to fill the meter, then hold Space.
  • Start with internal resolution at 1x and only go higher if the frame rate holds up.
  • Do not rely on saves in this preview build. Play in sessions and expect to start from a fresh profile next time.
  • For online races, use a private room with a friend and keep the tab visible; the match waits if one side lags.
