MarioKart64JS is a fan rebuild of Mario Kart 64 that runs in a browser tab. AgentiLoop used AI agents to port the decompiled original (the n64decomp/mk64 project) to JavaScript, Three.js and WebGL, so there is no emulator underneath. The track geometry, textures and sound were extracted from the US version of the game and checked against it.

All 16 courses are in, with the original sequenced music, item boxes and the item roulette, kart physics and drifting with a mini-turbo. Press G to switch between an N64-style 240p picture, sharper resolutions and HD textures from the MK64 Reloaded pack, or press 3 for Wii-style 3D karts.

Online races take 2 to 4 players. The browser version shares its lobby with the desktop builds for Windows, macOS, Linux and Raspberry Pi, and CPU karts fill any empty seats.

How to play Mario Kart 64

  1. Press Play. The game opens on the MarioKart64JS site in a new tab.
  2. Press Enter, Start or click anywhere to get past the title screen.
  3. For a solo race pick 1P GAME. To race people online pick 2P, 3P or 4P GAME: the room starts when it fills up, or 15 seconds after the first player joins, and Enter races the CPU instead.

Tips

  • Hold Space through a corner and let go on the way out for a mini-turbo.
  • Hold Shift or E with a banana or shell to drag it behind you as a shield, and press S with a green shell to fire it backwards.
  • Press J to switch the kart physics between Jumps and Glue if ramps feel off.

Questions

Is this an emulator?
No. The game code is a JavaScript port of the decompiled original running in Three.js, with graphics and sound taken from the original game.
Do I need my own game files?
No. Everything loads from the site when you press Play.
Can I play with friends?
Yes. Pick 2P, 3P or 4P GAME to join an online room for up to 4 players. CPU karts take the empty seats.
Is it official?
No. It is an unofficial fan project by AgentiLoop and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo.
