About Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

Play Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks free in your browser. No download, no install: it opens on mortalkombatsm.online in a new tab.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks takes the fighting series out of the one-on-one arena and turns it into a 3D beat 'em up. Midway Studios Los Angeles made it for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in September 2005. You play Liu Kang or Kung Lao through a retelling of Mortal Kombat II, from Shang Tsung's crumbling island to Outworld, fighting crowds of enemies with combos that hit in every direction. Spike walls and pits can finish foes, Fatalities and multi-enemy Multalities fill from a combo meter, and beating the story unlocks Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Slayoner's web port runs the PS2 version in the browser. It is built on PS2 Web Recomp by snuri00, which converts the game's PS2 code to WebAssembly and renders it with WebGPU, so the game runs on your own machine with nothing to install. The site is in Spanish by default and has an English option in its language menu.

Single Player and Versus Mode work, and Versus also plays online 1v1 with a room code or matchmaking, plus chat and a leaderboard of online wins. The cooperative story mode, Ko-op, freezes in this disc version, so two players should use Versus. Saves go to a virtual memory card that you can export to PCSX2. Keyboard, controllers and touch controls are all supported.

How to play Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

  1. Press Play. The site opens in a new tab; pick English in the language menu if you like. Use a current Chrome or Edge on a computer.
  2. Click Jugar (Play) for Single Player, or Jugar online (Play online) for a Versus match.
  3. Click inside the game image once it shows up. With a controller, press any of its buttons after that click.
  4. Online, create a private room and send the code to a friend. The room creator skips the opening notices with Cross, presses Start on the title screen and picks Versus Mode; each player then picks a fighter.
  5. Avoid the Ko-op mode, which freezes in this version. Save in the game to keep progress on the virtual memory card.

Tips

  • Keep internal resolution at 1x first, and only raise it if the game stays smooth.
  • Use the arena hazards: throwing enemies into spikes and pits clears a room faster than long combos.
  • Build combos to fill the Fatality meter, then finish a group of enemies at once with a Multality.
  • Online players are few, so invite a friend to a private room instead of waiting in matchmaking. Keep the tab visible during the match.
