About WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain

Play WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain free in your browser. No download, no install: it opens on wwepain.online in a new tab.

Many wrestling fans still call WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain the best game of the PS2 era. Yuke's developed it and THQ released it in October 2003 as the last game in the SmackDown! series. It brought a deeper grapple system, body damage and submission meters, rope breaks, and the first Elimination Chamber and Bra and Panties matches in a wrestling game. The roster had Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, The Rock and Stone Cold, early John Cena, Batista and Rey Mysterio, and legends like Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka.

This web version is by Slayoner. It runs the PS2 game in your browser with PS2 Web Recomp, snuri00's engine that turns PS2 code into WebAssembly and draws with WebGPU. The site, called Pain Online, is in Spanish by default but has an English option in its language menu.

You can play alone, against a second local controller, or online 1v1 through public matchmaking or a private room with a code. There is a public community chat, a private chat with your opponent and a daily and weekly table of online wins. Progress saves to a virtual memory card that you can download or import as a PCSX2 .ps2 file. Keyboard keys can be remapped, a USB or Bluetooth controller works, and phones get touch controls if their browser supports WebGPU. Online is marked experimental and the player base is small.

How to play WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain

  1. Press Play. Pain Online opens in a new tab. Switch the language menu to English if you want, and use a current Chrome or Edge on a computer.
  2. Click Jugar (Play) for solo, or Jugar online (Play online) for 1v1. The game loads automatically with nothing to install.
  3. When the game appears, click inside the game image (not the side panels). To use a controller, press any button on it after that click.
  4. For online with a friend, create a private room and share the code. The room creator is Player 1 and picks Exhibition, Single and 2 Players; each player then picks a wrestler with their own controls.
  5. Save inside the game to write to the virtual memory card. Use Download card (.ps2) in the Saves tab to back it up.

Tips

  • Start with internal resolution at 1x for the best speed, then try 2x or 3x if the game stays smooth. The change applies after a restart.
  • Matchmaking can take a while because the community is small. A private room with a friend gets you into a match right away.
  • Online matches use a separate blank memory card, so your solo saves stay safe. Back up the card as a .ps2 file before clearing browser data.
  • Learn Q and E early: reversing strikes and grapples is what wins close matches.
