About Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

Play Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness free in your browser. No download, no install: it opens on dos.games in a new tab.

Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness is Blizzard's 1995 real-time strategy game, the war between the Horde and the Alliance fought over land, sea and air. You gather gold, lumber and oil, build up a base and send footmen, ogres, ships and dragons against the other side, across two campaigns.

dos.games runs the DOS Battle Chest edition in a browser emulator, with the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion on the same disc. The game streams in pieces as you play, about 1.1 GB in all, and your saves stay on this device.

How to play Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness

  1. Press Play. dos.games opens in a new tab; press Play in browser there and give the emulator a minute to start the first time.
  2. Press a key at the first prompt, then press 1 in the Battle Chest menu to start the game with SoundBlaster sound.
  3. Pick Single Player Game, then New Campaign for the Orc or Human story, or Custom Scenario for a skirmish against the computer.

Tips

  • Build farms early so worker production never stalls.
  • Oil only comes from offshore patches, so a shipyard and an oil tanker are your first steps toward a navy.
  • Build guard towers or archers before the enemy reaches dragons or gryphons.
