Red & Blue Online is a fan-made online take on the 1996 Game Boy games. You start in Pallet Town, pick a partner in Oak's lab and work through the familiar Kanto, but other trainers walk the same routes, and you can add them as friends, trade, send gifts and battle them.

Pokémon Centers have a Trade Station for posting offers and a PokéMarket for buying and selling Pokémon for in-game money. You need a free account to play, so your team is kept on the server and follows you to any device. The original Red and Blue are on our Pokémon Red to Black page.

The site's guides cover trading, the PokéMarket, catching and evolutions, training your team and the classic battle glitches it fixed. It plays with a keyboard on a computer and with on-screen buttons on a phone.

How to play Pokémon Red & Blue Online

  1. Press Play. Red & Blue Online opens in a new tab.
  2. You need a free account: press Play now, then Create account and enter an email, a username and a password (at least 12 characters). Sign in if you already have one.
  3. In Oak's lab inspect the Poké Balls, pick your partner with YES, and head out of Pallet Town.
  4. Once you have the Pal Pad, click a nearby trainer and choose ADD FRIEND to trade or battle.

The game uses Game Boy style A, B, Start and Select buttons. On a phone they appear on screen with a joystick. A free account is needed before you can play.

Tips

  • Register a field item such as the Bicycle or a rod under ITEM, KEY ITEMS, REGISTER to use it with one button.
  • Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler and Haunter evolve when traded, and here you can trade with real players.
  • Check the PokéMarket before grinding for a rare catch.

Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one. Sign-up asks for an email, a username and a password; we saw no payment step.
Can I trade and battle other players?
Yes. Add trainers as friends with the Pal Pad, trade directly or through the Trade Station, send gifts and choose player battles.
Does it work on a phone?
The site shows on-screen controls for phones and its guides include phone instructions.
Is it official?
No. It is a fan project, not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokémon Company.
